Porch post perfection
Our latest project was half-baked when we got started.... much of the remodel had been done (structural, wiring, plumbing) and we came in at drywall ... my favorite stage! That meant all the colors, hard surfaces, fixtures, and hardware were ours to select. We still made a few modifications however, within reason of course to keep the budget in check. First on our list was to say goodbye to the pyramid posts at the front porch. They really rubbed us the wrong way. The proportion felt off and the shape in general was the opposite of Modern Cottage. Framing team to the rescue! The end result: these simple, unadorned rectangular posts that are just the right size and proportion. We heart straight lines :) While we were at it, we wrapped some of the pressure treated beams and added a beadboard soffit. Then we painted it all a crisp white ... for a fabulous Modern Cottage entry.
P.S. Orange stone... you're next!

A dog's life
In the midst of the non-stop activity and long hours that have been pretty much standard these past few weeks as we turn a house into a Modern Cottage, it's good to know some of us can just relax without a care in the world...

In Progress
Scout paid a visit to the job site recently... he's been at so many different sites and homes over the years, he doesn't think much of it, just makes himself at home. It's been a busy couple of weeks, but our painters take over this week which means we get a bit of a break - at least from any hands-on responsibilities at the house. We still have plenty of other details to take care of however, such as choosing the slab for the kitchen and master bath and finalizing some colors (which need to happen ASAP since the painters will be likely start spraying in a couple days!). We also need to order the new front door. Things are shaping up beautifully, and once we're painted, it's my favorite time: trim! Can't wait to see the sconces go up and all the great plumbing fixtures and hardware installed. More to come.

Horses
I am in love with these items from Etsy shop Otrada. I've had a fondness for horses since I was young, and these days they remind me of the times we'd take to the road on trips to see my grandparents in Idaho. We'd travel through Oregon and Montana depending on which route we took, and I'd always get so excited to see the horses out grazing on various farms as we sailed by. I especially love that these images were taken in Jackson Hole, Wyoming - a place I visited with my family once many, many years ago and adored. I love their modern feel, and the warmth and energy they would bring to a Modern Cottage.

Let the design begin!
Things have been busy as we're in the planning stages for a new project. We've been sourcing all the finish details now for the past week, and as of yesterday, have finalized nearly everything. Can't wait to show you the end result (once we get there!). For now, here are a few items that will make this home stand out: from the top, one of the best outdoor sconces I've seen lately; a great modern lav faucet that's playful and not austere; a simple vanity mirror with cool blackened edges.
